WhatsApp flaws can allow hackers to alter messages
The Facebook-owned messaging app, WhatsApp have been linked to the dozen of deaths in India. A security flaw pointed out a year ago by Check Point, an Israeli security software firm is yet to be addressed by WhatsApp. This vulnerability could be exploited in three ways says, security Researches, all of which involve social engineering tactics to fool end-users. First, using the ‘quote’ feature to change the identy of the sender in a group conversation even if that person is not a member of the group. Second, by altering the text of someone else’s messages. Third, by sending a private message in a group disguised as a public message and when the targeted individual responds it becomes visible to everyone in the conversation.
