Microsoft is gradually pushing its services from perpetual licenses towards a subscription-based model. The Microsoft hope that its customers will soon get accustomed to a monthly renewal format. The perpetual licence copies of Microsoft Office will be discontinued for its Home Use Program (HUP) users. Programme offer privilege discounts to their employees for purchasing the same Microsoft software at home, targeted at a select group of corporate clients. These users are allowed to pay one-time discounted fee to gain access to the latest Microsoft Office copy for Personal and Home & Business. A 30 percent discount is offered by the Microsoft Office HUP to the employees of organisations that have signed up for the programme with Microsoft. Microsoft has shifted to open-sourcing most of their technologies. Microsoft is to pushing towards a monthly or annual subscription-based revenue scheme, to maintain a consistent revenue stream that might eventually yield higher profits in the long run. Many users are eating into the potential money that the company could have earned. Microsoft will hope to convince its users and suggest that a recurrent annual sum is better than a single-pay option. Microsoft may be able to convince some of these users into paying for the original software, with a subscription model and a reduced net price further adding to its revenue stream. The Microsoft India official store lists Microsoft Office 365 Home for Rs 5,299 per year, without mentioning of how much a perpetual licence copy would cost. The company also offers the software at Rs 530 every month with first month free on trial.
