The latest processor of Intel Crop
on Tuesday unveiled that will be its first processor using Artificial
Intelligence (AI) and is designed for large computing centres. The chip is
known as Nervana NNP-I or Springhill, developed in development facility in
Haifa, Israel. It is based on an Ice Lake processor of 10 nanometres, that allows
it to cope with high workloads using minimal amounts of energy. Facebook, has
already started using the product. Intel’s first AI product comes after
investing in Israeli AI startups, including Habana Labs and Neuro Blade. To
reach a future situation of ‘AI everywhere’ Intel has to deal with huge amounts
of data generated and make sure that organisations are equipped with what they
need to make effective use of the data and process them where they are
collected. For complex AI applications these computers need to be accelerated.
The hardware chip of new processor will help Intel Xeon processors in large
companies as the need for complicated computations in the AI field increases.
