Every minute 504 new cyber security threats are witnessed
by the businesses and ransomware has grown up to 118 per cent as hackers adopt
new tactics and code innovations to steal data globally, a report on Wednesday.
In the first quarter (Q1) this year are than two billion stolen account
credentials were made available in the underground market report revealed by the
cyber security company McAfee. McAfee fellow and chief scientist, Raj Samani
stated that the impact of these threats is very real and it is important to recognize
that the numbers, highlighting increases or decreases, only tell a fraction of
the story of certain types of attacks. For
every cyber attack there is a human cost and every infection is another
business dealing with outages, or a consumer facing major fraud. The "Global
Threat Intelligence" cloud of McAfee gathered the threat data from over a
billion sensors across multiple threat vectors around the world. Ransomware
attacks increasingly target remote access points, such as Remote Desktop
Protocol (RDP), while spear phishing remained popular. The actors behind
ransomware attacks using anonymous email services to manage their campaigns
versus the traditional approach of setting up command-and-control (C2) servers were
observed by researchers. The findings showed that the use of email services is
perceived by threat actors to be a more anonymous method of conducting criminal
business. "Dharma" (also known as Crysis), GandCrab and Ryuk appeared
as the most active ransomware families of the quarter. From Q4 2018 at an
increase 20 per cent McAfee Labs counted 412 publicly disclosed security
incidents. Of all publicly-disclosed security incidents 32 percent took place
in the Americas followed by 13 per cent in the Asia-Pacific region and 3 per
cent in Europe.
